Collaboration...
… is powerful because we’re stronger and more effective together than we are as individuals. Helping others build the skills of collaboration is important because we are all inter-dependent beings living in an increasingly inter-dependent world. When we build collaborative processes, we work toward solutions that are owned by the groups or communities that engaged in the process, and whose leadership and passion allowed the work to come to fruition. As activist/ educator Myles Horton once wrote, “You can accomplish a lot of good in the world if you don’t care who gets the credit.” By attending to the underlying skills of collaboration—things like curiosity, communication, respect, shared leadership, humility, creativity, and even fun—we get the kinds of results that only a collaborative effort can yield.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
(African proverb)
